Mission Statement

about   Mission Statement

Purpose

"Accepting, healing, and equipping people in Jesus for Kingdom work"

Vision

Helping people come to Jesus
Helping people grow in Jesus
Releasing people in their gifts to serve Jesus

Name

PETRA is a New Testament, Greek word meaning "rock". It symbolizes the foundation of Jesus Christ upon which we are building.
"...upon this rock I will build my Church." (Matt. 16:18)
"...and that rock was Christ." (I Cor. 10:4)

Affiliation

We belong to the Hopewell Network of Churches, which is an interdenominational network of churches with Anabaptist roots. The network functions as an apostolic governing body for local churches.

Core Values

We value Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Our main emphasis is not Petra, not the Hopewell Network, not personalities, not worship. It’s all about Jesus.

We value the harvest.
Our primary mission as a local church is to reach those who are unsaved and unchurched. Our goal is to make our ministry relevant to this generation; and, through natural relationship and intentional outreach, reach our world for Christ. All we do must have this key component. We are working for the harvest.

We value the Holy Spirit.
We want to partner with the Holy Spirit and honor His leadings. We embrace all His gifts. Our goal is to be Spirit led in all we do.

We value the Bible.
We stand firmly on the full authority and inspiration of scripture. We believe it’s vital that God’s people grow in the knowledge of Scriptures. Our goal is to provide teaching and preaching that is biblically sound and relevant to both young and old.

We value worship and prayer.
God is after relationship, not religion. Worship and prayer that help us grow in our intimacy with God is important to us. We seek and enjoy God’s presence.

We value acceptance and healing.
We want to be a place of acceptance and healing for those who are unsaved or hurting. We value the building of loving, committed relationships.

We value equipping for service.
We hold to the value that every believer is a minister. The role of leaders is to train people how to become disciples of Jesus and to do hands-on ministry. We are saved to serve, so we emphasize equipping, the discovery of spiritual gifts, and the use of these gifts to build the Kingdom of God.

We value missions.
We believe God has called us to both foreign and local missions. We believe it is important that we are reaching out beyond our own needs to the needs of others.

We value the next generation.
We place a strong value on children and youth, and ministry to them has been a consistent priority for us over the years. Our goal is to offer high-quality, effective ministry.

We value small groups.
We believe that spiritual growth, outreach, care, and accountability happen best in a small-group setting. Small groups are vital to the health of this church; they provide the primary structure for pastoral care. Our goal is for every believer in the church to belong to a small group.

We value team ministry.
Team ministry is the model we are building upon in every ministry department. The pastor serves with a team of elders in setting forth vision. Each ministry leader builds and develops a team to work alongside them. We are also trying to build around a New Testament pattern of church government, where the pastor and elders are responsible for the decision making and direction of the church.

We value a regional church.
We are not an island. We are part of the Body of Christ of Lancaster County. We need to find ways to network together to reach the harvest in our region.
